Teaser Tuesday – Poison Princess

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Okay, so I’m finished with Poison Princess, but you get a teaser from it this week anyway! This book is told mainly from Evie’s perspective, with a few chapters here and there told from a mysterious villain’s perspective. I’ll show a teaser from each. (And no, this isn’t spoiling anything. The prologue is told from this mysterious villain’s perspective.)

I inwardly laugh at this. The girl is weak in body and in mind, as defenseless as she is gullible; if the fate of mankind rests in her hands, we are all utterly doomed. “That’s a lot to put on a sixteen-year-old girl’s shoulders, isn’t it?”

“You like cerises, huh?” He eased closer to me. “I’ve got an envie for a cherry.” A craving.

Cajun Innuendo, Jackson? “Here.” I smiled sweetly, holding one up by the stem for him. “Enjoy the only cherry you’ll get from me.”

“Sounds like a challenge.” With a wicked gleam in his eyes, he nipped it from my fingers with his even white teeth.

So, what do you think? This book has a lot going on, I guess. The spoken words in italics are “Cajun French” and the non-quote italic words are Evie’s thoughts. Argh, I hope this wasn’t too confusing to do as a teaser!
