Waiting on Wednesday #1

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating.

Beautiful Redemption, by Margaret Stohl and Kami GarciaComing October 23, 2012

Is death the end . . . or only the beginning?

Ethan Wate has spent most of his life longing to escape the stiflingly small Southern town of Gatlin. He never thought he would meet the girl of his dreams, Lena Duchannes, who unveiled a secretive, powerful, and cursed side of Gatlin, hidden in plain sight. And he never could have expected that he would be forced to leave behind everyone and everything he cares about. So when Ethan awakes after the chilling events of the Eighteenth Moon, he has only one goal: to find a way to return to Lena and the ones he loves.

Back in Gatlin, Lena is making her own bargains for Ethan’s return, vowing to do whatever it takes — even if that means trusting old enemies or risking the lives of the family and friends Ethan left to protect.

Worlds apart, Ethan and Lena must once again work together to rewrite their fate, in this stunning finale to the Beautiful Creatures series.

Pretty sure I read Beautiful Creatures, Beautiful Darkness, Beautiful Chaos, and Dream Dark all within a few months last year. And now the time is finally approaching for the conclusion of this series. Did you SEE the way they ended Beautiful Chaos? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS! Is Beautiful Redemption going to be solely narrated by Ethan (because that will be difficult)? I am eagerly anticipating the Austin Teen Book Festival where Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl will be on panels and signing books. I hope they’ll also be selling early copies of Beautiful Redemption, so my wait can be shortened.

Days of Blood and Starlight, by Laini TaylorComing November 6, 2012

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed “Daughter of Smoke and Bone,” Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone was declared a “must read” by Entertainment Weekly, was named a Best Book of the Year by Amazon.com, and The New York Times called it “a breath-catching romantic fantasy.”

After devouring Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I quickly purchased all of Laini Taylor’s other books and subsequently gobbled them up. Since finishing them, I’ve been dying for more of her beautiful prose and vivid worlds. Days of Blood and Starlight is still a little over 2 months away, but at least that means I’ll get to read it soon! I absolutely fell in love with Karou and the Chimeras, so I can’t wait to find out what happens and how Karou develops in this book. I hope Akiva also gets more development in this one; I’d love to see some more character development with his history as an angel and what their society is like. And one of the best parts? Laini Taylor is doing a signing at my favorite local indie bookshop! Woohoo!

  1. Simply can’t wait for Blood and Starlight. Taylor is a beautiful writer and I excited to see where the story goes. Great WoW. The Beautiful Creatures series is new to me but they sound interesting.

    • Indeed! I was introduced to the Beautiful Creatures series by my sister, and I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s different because it has a male protagonist and it’s set in the deep south. A lot of interesting lore and a lot of great humor. :)

So, what do YOU think?
